Your Black Friday Campaign Should Already Be in the Group Chat

Black Friday has a funny way of sneaking up on business owners.
One minute it's August and you're still posting summer content.
Then you blink.
Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is around the corner and suddenly you're in Canva at 11:47 PM typing “BLACK FRIDAY SALE” over a graphic.
Respectfully…
We can do better. 😂
The businesses that win during Black Friday aren't necessarily the ones offering the biggest discount. They're often the businesses that started planning before everyone else started selling.
Because your Black Friday campaign shouldn't start on Black Friday.
Your Offer Is Only One Piece
One of the first questions businesses ask is:
“What should my discount be?”
But that's not necessarily the first question you should answer.
First:
What are we trying to accomplish?
Move inventory?
Acquire new customers?
Increase average order value?
Generate cash flow?
Book your calendar?
Launch something new?
Reactivate previous customers?
Grow recurring revenue?
Your goal determines the offer.
And sometimes, 20% off isn't the answer.
A bundle, gift-with-purchase, limited-edition product, prepaid package, VIP experience or exclusive bonus may be much more profitable.
You Need People to Sell To
This is where brands get themselves in trouble.
They spend weeks developing their Black Friday offer and then start marketing it to the same 827 Instagram followers they've had all year.
Your pre-Black-Friday strategy should include audience building.
That means growing:
Your email list
Your SMS list
Website traffic
Social engagement
Retargeting audiences
Previous customer lists
The larger and warmer your audience is before launch, the less you're relying on a random Black Friday post to magically generate sales.
Your Website Needs to Be Ready
More traffic on a website that doesn't convert doesn't automatically equal more sales.
Before Black Friday, review:
Your homepage.
Mobile experience.
Navigation.
Product/service pages.
Checkout process.
Site speed.
Email capture.
Upsells.
Frequently asked questions.
Shipping or fulfillment information.
Your campaign may bring people through the door.
Your website still has to close them.
Email + SMS Shouldn't Start on Black Friday Either
Your subscribers shouldn't hear from you for the first time in six months because you suddenly want them to buy something.
Start warming your audience beforehand.
Educate them.
Entertain them.
Introduce products.
Build anticipation.
Offer VIP access.
Then when your Black Friday campaign launches, you're selling to people who have already been paying attention.
Black Friday Is a Campaign — Not a Graphic
Your campaign has moving pieces:
Strategy → Offer → Audience → Creative → Website → Email → SMS → Social → Launch → Follow-Up
When those pieces work together, Black Friday becomes much more than another discount weekend.
It becomes a customer acquisition and revenue opportunity that can carry your business through the rest of Q4 — and potentially into the new year.
